doCUMENTA contemporary art event in Kassel

Posted on July 9, 2012

I took some holiday time from my strictly-performing-arts job to visit doCUMENTA for three days of exhaustive contemporary art experiences. I particularly enjoyed the range of venues and the work located in outdoor and city spaces. Michael Portnoy’s Gnosis was probably my favourite piece, although I was thrilled by the videos of Tejal Shah from India (via RMIT).

This was my second doCUMENTA and whilst I felt more of a professional connection to much of the work through my Brussels experiences of visual and performing arts, I found doCUMENTA (11) that I visited a whole decade ago, to be more mind-stretchingly curated. At that time the choices made by Okwui Enwezor were quite startling for me, based in London as I was at the time.
