Federation Wallonie Bruxelles, “From Brussels with Love” dance showcase

Posted on April 17, 2013

I attended two of three days of a dance showcase organised by the arts promotion team for the Walloon Community in Brussels. On the first night we attended a performance at Les Brigitinnes and a cocktail event. On the second day we were presented with an extract of a work in progress from Vincent Glowinski (aka iconic street artist Bonhomme) at the studios of Ultima Vez. We ate with members of Peeping Tom and Wim Vandekubus’ team and then took a tour of the Grand Studio to meet ten artists in intense fifteen minute presentations. Amongst the ten were several whose work I have seen over the course of my year here, including Mauro Paccagnella, Louise Vanneste and Gaetan Bulourde. I met for the first time the work of Olga de Soto, Ayelin Parolin, Julie Bougard, Lise Vachon, Sarah Ludi and Maria-Clara Villa Lobos. It was interesting to catch up with presenter friends such as Mikael Aaltonen of Kiasma in Finland and Jaychandran of Attakalari Performing Arts Centre in India. I made new acquaintances from The Netherlands, Canada, Estonia, France, Brazil and Germany and had some fascinating conversations about their work.
