Long Paddock, Brisbane

Posted on September 12, 2013

I attended my first Long Paddock forum in Brisbane and was interested to see what all the fear and loathing amongst artists and producers was really about. This gathering of national and regional presenters was attended by 150+ and over two days we listened to presentations by companies, producers and artists seeking support for national tours. Whilst some of the product was openly commercial, there was a high proportion of works of quality that were of genuine interest to me in my work. I also enjoyed the “encounter” sessions where artists presented a wider portfolio of their work more thoughtfully. And of course, there were a lot of peers and colleagues to meet. I found the event to be much more energised and interesting than I had led to believe and actually felt quite positive about the state of touring in Australia.
