A smattering of visual art in Perth

Posted on September 27, 2013

In between my numerous performing arts meetings in Perth, I was able to duck into PICA and The Art Gallery of West Australia to take in a couple of exhibitions. I could have done with more time for both institutions. The PICA survey of contemporary Asian art was really dynamic and featured a broad range of works, from the more contemplative photography of Simrin Gill to the expolsive installations of punkasila. I enjoyed the light curation and have the catalogue essay to peruse now in order to learn more. At the Art Gallery, I gave the usual blockbuster Western European paid exhibit a swerve and enjoyed very much the most recent room of Your Collection, works from the impressive general collection. I particularly enjoyed the indigenous work from the region.
