Children’s shows in Melbourne

Posted on January 22, 2015

As well as visiting the galleries, we have been counter-pointing pool and beach with some performance experiences. The Arts Centre in Melbourne has been particularly exciting and on one day we took in two shows and two workshops. Laura Milke’s Now Hear This sound effects workshop in the new audiovisual facility, The Channell, was really engaging for the kids, as they put together a radio drama with foley effects. They also enjoyed the operatic dress ups in the gallery space but were a tad underwhelmed by Future Postal Service outside on the Hamer Hall forecourt. At M Pavillion they took in Paper Planet by Polyglot theatre company and at Melbourne Recital Centre did a drumming workshop with Melbourne Percussion Academy. The highlight of the performances we enjoyed was onestepatatime’s InsideOutside, the exploration of the Arts Centre’s peculiar architecture, that Robert actually helped to create in a development last year. Both boys really enjoyed the treasure hunt of clues and multi-media aspects of this production and we will never wander the carpet lined walls of the Arts Centre innocently again.
